1. (2)

Detroit Red Wings
4-0-0 It’s going to take some special hockey to beat this team.  Imagine how good they’ll be once they figure out how to score on the power play.  We bet Detroit will be hanging out here, in the number one spot, for a looooooooong time.

2. (6)

 Washington Capitals

4-0-0

4-0 is great.  But 3 trips to overtime (one shoot-out), and a 1 goal win against the Senators doesn’t scream dominance. With games against Detroit and Philadelphia this week, we’ll find out where the Caps really stand.

3. (1)

Philadelphia Flyers

3-0-1

Of course Mike Richards would be responsible for handing the Flyers their first loss… he’s been helping them lose for years.  The good news, this is the only time the Flyers will see him all season.

4. (5)

Buffalo Sabres

3-1-0

Buffalo beat a really good Penguins team 3-2 on Saturday… but they missed some sure-fire shots.  Should have been a blowout.

5. (21)

Colorado Avalanche

4-1-0

The biggest mover of the week shows us just how little we know about hockey. 16 goals over the past three games. Also, the Avs went 6-14 in the power play. (We’re choosing to forget that they had an easy schedule)

6. (3)

Pittsburgh Penguins

3-1-2

SID THE KID IS COMING BACK! But, in the meantime, with Malkin and Crosby still out, the Penguins had a tough week.  But we expect to see them at the top of the rankings soon. Did we mention Sid’s coming back?

7. (20)

Dallas Stars

4-1-0

You know what, your record matters to us. Dallas, just keep winning. Kari Lehtonen is 4-0 with a SVPCT of .955… just good enough to lead the league (min. 2 starts).

8. (8)

Chicago Blackhawks

2-1-1

Marian Hossa looked like he could have beaten the Jets by himself. He scares us.

9. (11)

3-1-0

Wins over San Jose and St Louis have got to have Emilio feeling good.

10. (13)

 Minnesota Wild

2-1-2

The Ottawa game has us confused, but the Wild continue to pick up points. That was just enough this week (as San Jose led the charge of falling super powers) to help Minnesota move up.

11. (23)

New Jersey Devils

3-1-0

For now, they deserve it. 3 quality wins this week (Canes, Kings, Predators), give them vacation until Friday when they host the ever disappointing Sharks.

12. (16)

Toronto Maple Leafs

3-0-0

When you win, you get rewarded. After 2 1/2 weeks of play, there are only three undefeated teams.  The MIGHTY Maple Leafs are flexing, leading the league in goals per game.

13. (17)

Los Angeles Kings

2-1-1

Mike Richards has got to feel like a… wait for it… King after serving up the game winning assist in OT to his former club.

14. (19)

New York Islanders

3-1-0

John Tavares. 5 goals, 8 points in the last two games. He Hat tricked the Rangers, looking like Bill “The Butcher”. Gangs of New York!!!!

15. (15)

Nashville Predators

2-1-1

They have the NHL’s youngest roster.  But that is no excuse for losing to Phoenix.

16. (9)

Florida Panthers

2-1-0

We like the Panthers.  This may be too harsh of a ranking considering they played well last week, but we don’t want to be embarrassed when they lose their next 3.

17. (4)

Vancouver Canucks

2-2-1

Canucks fans have got to be disappointed.  0-3 against elite teams.  There is plenty to be fixed in Vancouver (see what i did there?)

18. (25)

Carolina Hurricanes

2-2-1

Back to back wins over Boston and Buffalo.  Make believers out of us Cam!

19. (12)

 St. Louis Blues

2-3-0

Is it good or bad when your oldest player is leading the team in points?  Jason Arnott is 37.

20. (7)

San Jose Sharks

1-2-0

San Jose is going down here as punishment for making us look so bad. We don’t care how fickle that makes us.

21. (10)

Boston Bruins

2-3-0

Until Boston can win two in a row, this is where they belong.

22. (14)

Montréal Canadiens

1-2-1

The Canadiens have only collected points when they’ve scored 5 goals.  If this keeps up, they’re due for a long season.

23. (24)

 Tampa Bay Lightning

1-2-2

Great penalty killing (26-28) somehow isn’t keeping opponents from scoring.  Since their opening win, the Lightning have given up 18 goals in 4 games.

24. (18)

Edmonton Oilers

1-1-1

With only three games played, the Oilers should be well rested for a big week.  Two very winnable games against Calgary and NYR.

25. (27)

Phoenix Coyotes

2-1-1

Don’t get carried away by a good win against the Predators, but certainly be encouraged.

26. (28)

Calgary Flames

1-3-0

Up 2 goals against the POWERHOUSE Maple Leaves, but let the game get away. We predict a win against the Rangers this week.

27. (22)

New York Rangers

0-1-2

Win, then we’ll talk.

28. (29)

Ottawa Senators

1-4-0

Two days after beating a Minnesota Team we think can make the playoffs, the Senators get destroyed 7-1.  Some teams are enigmatic to the core.

29. (26)

Winnipeg Jets

0-3-0

It Kills us to see the Jets down here.  But you’ve got to win in this league.  And until unless they can learn to control the center ice, they’re going to be down here a lot.

30. (30)

Columbus Blue Jackets

0-4-1

They finally scored on the power play. But they still lost the game.
