-The Kings finally give up a goal
A 221-minute streak that spanned three games came to an end in the second period Tuesday night in Los Angeles. Jonathan Bernier got the nod in net for the Kings to give Jonathan Quick a break before the team’s three-game road trip. Bernier held the Devils in check through the first, but surrendered three goals in the second, which accounted for all the scoring in the game. Danius Zubrus, Petr Sykora, and Patrick Elias scored for New Jersey. The Kings return to play Thursday and Jonathan Quick will get the start.
-Shane Doan scores milestone goal
Coyotes captain Shane Doan scored his 300th career goal against Dallas Tuesday night. The Coyotes would go on to lose in an eight-round shootout.
-Columbus gets first win of the season
The Columbus Blue Jackets are finally in the win column. The Jackets entered Tuesday’s game as the last winless team in the NHL. The Red Wings started Ty Conklin in net and he looked uneasy all night. Ryan Johansen and John Moore scored their first NHL goals and Steve Mason added 30 saves in the 4-1 Columbus victory. The game also marked the Blue Jackets debut of defenseman James Wisniewski, who provided a big spark. Steve Mason said afterward, “Having Wiz back there is huge. His confidence, not just in the way he plays, but in the way he carries himself kind of rubs off on the guys, especially the younger guys.”
