Daily NHL Recap

Seriously, how cool is this picture?

Boston wins?  So does Luongo?  Whaaaaaaaaa?

Ottawa Senators 3 @ Boston Bruins 5 – I’m sure Boston was thinking, here we go again, after the first period Tuesday night, trailing 2-1. But Patrice Bergeron and Chris Kelly scored two goals in the second giving the Bruins a 3-2 lead . Jared Cowen tied the game up for the ‘Sens before the B’s got goals from Johnny Boychuk and Daniel Paille. The city of Boston probably needed this on the night the Celtics might have opened the NBA season and the Patriots coming off a loss (yes I’m being sarcastic).

Tampa Bay Lightning 2 @ Carolina Hurricanes 4 – The Lightning got the first goal and that was pretty much their only highlight on Tuesday. Jeff Skinner, with the game tied at one, put in two second period goals for the ‘Canes. Both teams scored in the third period. Skinner was the hero. Cam Ward stopped 28-of-30 shots that came his way.

Minnesota Wild 2 @ Detroit Red Wings 1 F/OTNicklas Lidstrom scored six minutes into the game putting the Red Wings up 1-0; they held onto that lead until the final minute of regulation. Mikko Koivu scored in the final minute beating Jimmy Howard to tie things up. Devon Setoguchi PPG 1:33 into OT gave Minnesota the victory sending Detroit to its fifth straight loss.

Anaheim Ducks 4 @ Washington Capitals 5Saku Koivu (big night for the Koivu boys) and fellow Fin Teemu Selanne made it 2-0 Ducks in the first. Selanne added his second putting Anaheim up 3-0, but then Joel Ward and Dennis Wideman scored back-to-back goals cutting the deficit to 3-2 after two periods. Anaheim, opened each period up with a score as Corey Perry made a PPG goal, putting his team up 4-2. Washington then locked it up in the last nine minutes of regulation: Troy Brouwer cut it to one goal and then in the final minute, Nicklas Backstrom tied it up (42 seconds remaining). Backstrom, having a taste for scoring, put in the game winner 2 minutes and 18 seconds into the extra period completing the comeback.

Vancouver Canucks 5 @ Calgary Flames 1 – Vancouver clearly came into this Northwest division showdown in a bad bad mood. The Canucks scored three first period goals, two coming on the power play. Not stopping, Vancouver made it 4-0 in early in the second. Alexander Edler made it 5-0 midway through the second. Alex Tanguay scored a FU goal that prevented Roberto Luongo from getting a shutout.
