Catch Up on Today’s BIGGEST NHL Headlines
What do an 18 year old and a 39 year old have in common? Read to find out… (spoiler: nothing. We just wrote about both of them)
– Nugent-Hopkins is top rookie for October
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for October. Not bad for the 18 year old from Burnaby, B.C. He led all rookies with 11 points (five goals and six assists) in 11 games played (if only these elevens came in the 11th month of the year 2011… spooky vision!)
– Washington wins, but what’s up with Ovi and Bruce?
Alexander Ovechkin had the assist on the Capitals game winning goal to Nicklas Backstrom, but that isn’t what everyone was talking about in the postgame press conference. Ovechkin wasn’t on the ice when Backstrom tied the game up in the final minute, leading everyone in D.C. to wonder what was head coach Bruce Boudreau doing! He was trying out a new philosophy, rewarding those who were getting the job done…I feel like this story isn’t over yet.
– Mardy is BACK!
Martin Brodeur returns to the ice tonight when the Devils host the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Prudential Center. Brodeur has been out since Oct. 13, and the devils actually were decent during the time he missed, which included a win in LA versus the Kings.
– Discover to sponsor Inaugural Thanksgiving game
Earlier this week we learned about the All-Star Games title sponsor and today we “Discovered” who’s name will be on the Thanksgiving game on NBC. On Thanksgiving Friday, we’ll have the 2011 Discover NHL Thanksgiving Showdown (even the WWE thinks that name sounds kind of lame) between the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings at noon (full disclosure– Iowa at Nebraska will probably have my attention).
