Daily NHL Recap

Don't ruin this for me Fleury

A lot of players scored two goals on Monday but only one of them wears No. 87… and if you hate Crosby, don’t worry, the fanfare will end soon. (But come on, ya got to give the guy props for a spectacular comeback game)

Carolina Hurricanes 4 at Philadelphia Flyers 2 – Well Flyers, I praise you in my weekly top5 and this is how you repay me? Alexei Ponikarovsky had two power play goals, which were the difference in the ‘Canes getting the road victory in Philly.

New York Islanders 0 at Pittsburgh Penguins 5 – This had the feeling of a college homecoming game where the home team schedules a patsy and rolls them to the delight of thousands of wasted teenagers. Why would I say that about a Nov. 21 game in the NHL? Some guy known only as employee 87 (to protect his identity at the risk of overexposure) had four points in his return (two goals and two assists).

Phoenix Coyotes 3 at Washington Capitals 4 – The Coyotes scored the first two goals at the Verizon Center, the ‘Caps scored on a fluky defection goal by John Carlson that hit a Phoenix stick. Washington scored the next three goals before the ‘Yotes scored late resulting in the final score. Bruce Boudreau got his 200th win with this outcome.

Calgary Flames 1 at Columbus Blue Jackets 4 – With the developments in Pittsburgh the BJ’s were in control of their own destiny to shed the worst team in the league title. Jeff Carter had two goals for Columbus and Rick Nash made an appearance helping the CBJ.

Boston Bruins 1 at Montreal Canadians 0 – Made it nine victories in-a-row with their shutout victory north of the boarder in the French-Canadian hub of Montreal. Andrew Ference had the game’s lone goal for the B’s and Tim Thomas pitched the shutout with 33 saves.

New Jersey Devils 3 at Florida Panthers 4 – The Devils jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead, the Panthers slowly chipped away to complete the comeback. Kris Versteeg scored twice in the second then the ‘Cats put two more past Martin Brodeur in the third to protect home ice and continue their impressive recent streak.

Edmonton Oilers 1 at Dallas Stars 4 – The Dallas Stars had been struggling, this is a known fact, but so have the Edmonton Oilers. What would give on Monday night? Well the Stars came out and got the win with four different players getting goals for Dallas.

Glad to see Alexi Ponikarovsky actually knows how to play hockey. He just looked lost and sad last season in LA.

For the record, this blog has become my go-to for morning after coverage of the League. Keep it up.

Jon, thanks for your continuing support of this blog
