Washington Capitals 5 at Ottawa Senators 3 – The first period for a scoreless 20 minutes in this battle of the capital of America’s hat and the capital of America. Jeff Halpern put the ‘Caps up 1-0 before the ‘Sens scored the final two goals in the second period. Nicklas Backstrom, Russian Number 8, Troy Brouwer and John Carlson scored goals and Washington outscore Ottawa 4-1 in the third.

Philadelphia Flyers 5 at Buffalo Sabres 4 F/OT – Buffalo led 3-0 before the Flyers got a goal with a second left in the first period. Philadelphia scored three more goals taking a 4-3 led with them in the third. With less than two minutes in the game, the Sabres tied the game up and sent it to overtime. Halfway through the OT, Claude Giroux scored his 16th goal of the season in this back and forth contest in Buffalo.

Carolina Hurricanes 5 at Edmonton Oilers 3 – Edmonton, we loved you when you were winning and now that your struggling we are questioning our friendship with you. The difference in the game was the Hurricanes outscoring the Oilers 3-1 in the second period. Jeff Skinner scored his 12th goal of the season in the first for Carolina.
