Daily NHL Recap

David Clarkson and the Devils delievered a 5-4 buttslam to the Lightning Monday night

One game on Monday night and it was in Tampa. Oh, and the ax finally fell on the Kings coach

New Jersey Devils 5 at Tampa Bay Lightning 4 – One game to counter that awesome (sarcasm) Monday Night Football game on that network that doesn’t care about hockey. New Jersey scored the first two goals in the first period, before Tampa Bay tied things up with two first period goals of their own. The Devils then scored three unanswered goals with Zach Parise, Ilya Kovalchuck, and Adam Henrique (shorthanded goal) putting NJ up 5-2 after two. Steven Stamkos scored his 17th goal of the season on the powerplay and put in his second goal of the period with 33.5 seconds left. But TB couldn’t score the equalizer and they fell 5-4.

Before the game, the Los Angeles Kings made it official, firing Terry Murray who was 13-12-4 and in fourth place in the Pacific division. Murray leaves LA third in franchise history in wins with a mark of 139-106-30. He’d been with the Kings since July, 17, 2008.
