Daily NHL Recap

Thank you Viktor Stalberg for the hat trick, but this was the best picture of your accomplishment

Last night we had a couple hat tricks and three shootouts, but more importantly, I got to use a photo of ice girls

Winnipeg Jets 3 at Boston Bruins 5 – Winnipeg struck first at the home of the defending champs and lead 3-2 heading into the third period. The Bruins scored three unanswered goals in the final period with Nathan Horton, Tyler Seguin and Benoit Pouliot scored the goals.

Buffalo Sabres 0 at Toronto Maple Leafs 2 – I’m thinking that the next coaching shakeup could occur in Buffalo with how the teams been playing. Toronto beat Ryan Miller with two first period goals which were enough for the win.

Detroit Red Wings 1 at New York Islanders 5 – This was the WTHII let down game of the night or that must be the solution of how the Red Wings lost to the Islanders. New York built a 4-0 lead by the third with one in the first and three in the second Matt Moulson scored his 19th and 20th goals.

Phoenix Coyotes 1 at New York Rangers 2 F/SORadim Vrbata scored his 20th goal in regulation and again in the shootout. The Rangers however took the victory at home as they continue to pull away in the Atlantic division.

Ottawa Senators 5 at Pittsburgh Penguins 1 – Ottawa continues their solid play that has them surging in the standings. The ‘Sens built a 4-1 advantage heading into the third when Milan Michalek scored his second of the game which was goal no. 22 this season.

Philadelphia Flyers 2 at Carolina Hurricanes 1 – The Flyers avoided a bad road loss to the Hurricanes getting a third period goal for the win. Sean Couturier scored three and a half minutes in putting the Flyers up for good.

St. Louis Blues 3 at Montreal Canadians 0Jaroslav Halak shutout/down the Canadians on Tuesday night as the Blues won in Quebec. After a scoreless first St. Louis scored twice in the second and added a third goal in the final period.

Vancouver Canucks 5 at Tampa Bay Lightning 4 F/SO – Vancouver scored the first two goals and carried a 4-2 lead into the third period. Tampa Bay evened the game with two goals to send the game to overtime which then went to the shootout. Mason Raymond of the Canucks was the only one to find the net giving the road team the win, Steven Stamkos of the Lightning scored his 29th goal.

San Jose Sharks 4 at Minnesota Wild 5 F/SO – Minnesota tried to lose this game building a 4-2 with seven minutes remaining. San Jose scored twice in the last four minutes to get the game to OT which turned in to a SO. Like their last meeting in St. Paul the Wild defeated the Sharks in a shootout but even more impressive is Minnesota is unbeaten against the San Jose this season.

Columbus Blue Jackets 2 at Chicago Blackhawks 5 – Well the new coach is like the new coach in the fact Columbus still lost no matter who was behind the bench. Viktor Stalberg had a hat trick for the Blackhawks and had two of the three goals Chicago scored in the third.

Nashville Predators 4 at Colorado Avalanche 1 – The Predators road the strength of a three-goal first to do what few have done in Denver recently – get a victory. Nashville getting the points is important with two of the three teams above them in the central having also won on Tuesday night.

New Jersey Devils 3 at Calgary Flames 6 – The Flames built a 4-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of regulation in route to winning by three goals. Curtis Glencross scored his 18th goal and Jerome Iginla put in his 17th of the season.

Dallas Stars 2 Anaheim Ducks 5 – The Ducks knocked off the Stars behind a Saku Koivu hat trick on Tuesday night at the Honda Pond. Koivu scored two of the three goals Anaheim scored en route to the win.
